It's totally naturally to have some questions about floating when you aren't familiar with the practice. Don't worry, though! Here are answers to questions most frequently asked by first-time clients:
Q: How is water hygiene maintained?
We have to comply with stringent health and safety regulations. The water contains 97% salt so the solution is sterile. We add a limited amount of (swimming pool) chemicals to ensure it’s clean. We filter the water three times thoroughly between each float session. The size of our filter is 10 micron (for reference, the size of a human hair is 75 micron) so everything, no matter how small, gets trapped in it. Additionally, we test the water daily to ensure a sanitary environment.
Q: When should I avoid floating?
To prevent contamination of the water from bacteria, please DO NOT schedule a float if you are menstruating, just had a colonic, or have hemorrhoids.
We also request that you do not float if:
- You have not been shown how to use the tank by a qualified person
- You are currently under the influence of alcohol or other drugs
- You have open or bleeding wounds
- You have a fresh tattoo
- You suffer from incontinence or uncontrolled epilepsy
- You have been medically advised not to float
- You have a special or lacquered hairdo, which you wish to keep
- You have dyed your hair recently - please wait until the water runs clear when washing your hair before you float
- You are not confidant of being able to get out due to lack of personal mobility (please request help getting in and out if unsure)

Q: Can I float if I'm pregnant?
Yes, absolutely! The Epsom salt in the water can help to alleviate aches, pains, and swelling often associated with pregnancy and the weightless environment will help take the extra weight off of your spine. Many pregnant women find floating helps them create a stronger bond with the unborn baby. We strongly suggest checking with your physician or midwife before coming in.
Q: What effects does floating have on the body?
In the gravity free environment the body balances and heals internally as all the senses are rested. Research shows that floating measurably reduces blood pressure and heart rate while lowering the levels of stress related chemicals in the body. Old injuries and aches (especially back pain), experience relief as floating helps blood circulation.
Q: What effects does floating have on the mind?
During a float, you produce slower brainwaves patterns, known as theta waves, (normally experienced only during deep meditation or just before falling asleep). This is usually accompanied by vivid imagery, very clear, creative thoughts, sudden insights and inspirations or feelings of profound peace and joy, induced by the release of endorphins, the body’s natural opiates.
Because of these effects, floating is used effectively in the treatment of depression and addictions, including smoking and alcohol. It is also used in schools and universities as tools to enhance learning.
Q: Is it private?
Yes, you float within your own individual room, so there is no need to wear a swimsuit. Our room has its own shower and is yours exclusively use for the duration of your session.
Q: Can more than one person float in the tank at a time?
Our tank is able to accommodate one person at a time. If you are looking to come in with a friend or loved one, we are more than happy to accomadate you by booking one appointment after the other.
Q: Will my skin wrinkle?
No. Because the water contains high salt levels it doesn’t rob your skin of salt (which is what causes wrinkling). Rather, it leaves you skin soft and silky.
Q: But I’m claustrophobic!
It’s OK... many people are, but we use float tanks and you have the entire room to yourself so you can feel free to step out or stand up inside the tank. Also, the light is controlled from inside, giving you total control of your environment. There is also an alert button located within the tank that you can press to alert the staff that you require assistance. Finally, the room may be larger than you think, measuring approximately 8 feet long, 7 feet tall, and 5 feet wide.
Q: Is floating successful for everyone?
Floating, as with other things, doesn’t suit everybody. It needs willingness on your part to let go and see what happens. You may need to float a few times before you are able to relax completely, both physically and mentally. Depending on your own journey through life, a float might provide an hour of total physical relaxation or a profound healing experience, emotionally and spiritually transforming. Floating can be a wonderful aid to opening doors into your inner world, gradually allowing access to those deeper levels at which real changes take place.
